As a surgeon working from nearly 9+ years, I’ve seen medicine change a lot. One of the biggest changes I’ve witnessed is the rise of laparoscopic surgery. We used to do large cuts, open the body widely. Recovery used to be longer, painful, and many patients would fear surgery due to those reasons.
Now, with laparoscopy, we use very small incisions. A tiny camera (we call it a laparoscope) gives us full view of inside organs. We work using special instruments. It’s more precise. Patients recover faster, there is much less pain, and hospital stay is very short in most cases.
In Chennai, where I practice, many patients are now coming forward confidently because of this method. Whether it is gallbladder removal, hernia repair, or appendix surgery – laparoscopy is giving us wonderful results. Infection risk is low too, which is a big advantage in high-risk patients like diabetics.
I tell my patients: “Smaller cut means lesser worry.” Of course, not all cases are suitable. We always check condition carefully before deciding. But in most general surgical problems, this method is a blessing.
