Some think it is unsafe because we don’t see organs directly. But the truth is, laparoscope gives us much clearer viewthan naked eye. It magnifies everything.
Others feel it’s only for young people. Not true. I have done successful laparoscopic procedures even in 75-year-old patients, with safe results. In fact, elderly benefit more because recovery is fast and less strain on body.
Few believe it is costlier. While it may look so at first, the shorter hospital stay, fewer medicines, and quick return to work often makes it more cost-effective than open surgery.
Also, some ask – “Will there be big scars?” The answer is no. Most incisions are 0.5 to 1 cm, and fade over time. Many of my patients return after months showing their healed scars, saying it’s like nothing happened.
